an established cult figure nowadays, there was a time when karen black seemed to be on the brink of superstardom -- due primarily to her role as rayette, robert dupea's (jack nicholson) ditzy girlfriend. delivered with a sublime honesty, greatly assisted by the equally brilliant performance of her leading man, you really can't take your eyes off of rayette throughout this classic example of 60's americana.
