merely a child during filming, hemingway played woody allen's very grown up girlfriend tracy, injecting the role with a unique blend of innocence and maturity well beyond her years. although i never stopped shouting "she's only 16!" at the screen every time i saw the couple in bed together, allen apparently took painstaking efforts to shield hemingway from a lot of the film's profanity, taking on the role of director and on-set father, in order to elicit the best possible performance. mission accomplished.

lost to her manhattan co-star meryl streep in kramer vs. kramer
greatest moment: the powerfully emotional scene where tracy is left heartbroken by isaac's unjust assertion that they see other people.
